The Week of Brotherhood

The 52nd week took place between 14th and 21st March under the Motto: “I - Thou - We”. Many people considered action under this motto particularly topical and necessary. The taking of mutual responsibility should not prove to be too difficult, because the three main religions have many ideas and ideals in common. This was evident at the service, which took place, in the Jewish Community house on 14 March 2004, in the presence of leading personalities in City and Churches.

The great public interest in the Synagogue part of the new Community House on the “Day of the Open Door” gives rise to hope, too.

The last event of the week was a widely-noticed address by Prof. emeritus Franz Kohlschein about the development of German-Jewish relations between 1743 and 1933. He concluded that it was time to re-energise the rich inheritance of the German-Jewish Symbiosis, which has stood for so long in the shadow of the painful events after 1933. The “Week” and particularly Prof. Kohlschein’s address, were reported in the Fränkischer Tag of 22 March 2004.

The “Week” was again under the patronage of Lord Mayor Herbert Lauer.
