The Synagogue Choir

The standard of singing continues to improve and the repertoire has grown. The choir performs during services and community functions, and to welcome visiting groups from other communities. The choir also receives invitations to sing outside Bamberg. Thus on 28 March it followed a request by the Central Welfare Office of the Jews in Germany to give a concert at the Edenpark home in Bad Kissingen. A large audience listened to a potpourri of liturgical music, Klezmer and Russian folk songs. Cantor Rudolf and Mrs. Arnold were invited as soloists.

On 25 April, the choir gave a concert in the Community house on the occasion of Yom Haazmaut (Israel Independence Day). On the same occasion, there were visitors again from the Stuttgart Community.

I was delighted to find out that there now exists also a children’s’ choir, which has regular practice days and times like the grownups.

Choir apart, I reported in the past about a number of concerts given by Russian immigrant members of the Community, or by an Israeli violinist of Russian origin. For a further example see below under Society for the Promotion of the Culture and History of the Jews of Bamberg.
