Society for Christian-Jewish Cooperation

On 5 November Mr.Olmer gave a presentation on the life of Jews in Germany since 1945, particularly the recent history of the Bamberg Community, entitled “A Chance for survival”. When he took over the presidency of the Community in 1889, there were 40 Jews in Bamberg and the rural area. Today, there are about 800. 90% are people admitted from Russia. This has led to a new flowering of Jewish life, with regular religious services and instruction, a choir, youth and sernior clubs, social events and, of course, soon with a new synagogue and a com- munity house with many facilities. The community depends of donations and state support and on much voluntary work. He was worried about the secret antisemitism which has been growing lately. (Reported in the Fränkischer Tag of 10 November).
