The Week was arranged by the Society for Christian-Jewish Cooperation under the motto Abraham's Children - together for Peace. Mayor Lauer opened the Week on 4th March at the St. Josef's home. For the first time, members of the Bamberg Muslim community were invited. Another innovation was the sharing of bread, and the holding of hands as peace greetings because, as the Fränkischer Tag of 6 March wrote "Symbols and actions often bear more fruit than words".

The contribution by a Choir from the Franz- Ludwig-(formerly Neues) Gymnasium greatly enhanced the opening meeting of the Week.

On 6 March, Dr. Walther gave a talk at the Community house on "Leo Baeck and Hasso von Veltheim - a friendship in desperate times", an appropriate subject for the Week.
